French Landscapes: some days in Laguépie

One of the things we enjoy the most living in the South of France, and more specifically in The Lot department, is having the possibility to be only a few kilometers away from other rural areas. During the summer period they are frequently full of tourists. As soon as August ends, many of them are desert areas. This is not new and it is one of the challenges of living in the countryside.

This summer, we’ve spent some days in Laguépie three different times. The contrast of the river landscape before, during and after July and August months was an evidence. If I had to mention only one thing from those three times and our days in the village, I’d say that we really enjoyed the sound of the river. I cannot remember who said that “water is a teacher, a healer, a mirror”.

Sacha is now two years old and the thing he enjoyed the most was looking for new river stones in the Viaur, also finding small fishes in the river.

Laguépie village is situated at the confluence of two rivers: the Averyron and the Viaur. It’s also at the confluence of three departments, Aveyron, Tarn-et-Garonne and Tarn. It is surrounded by hills and by the castle of Saint Martin Laguépie. It’s a kind of paradise for fishing lovers, but also for wine ones, as The Cahors and The Gaillac vineyards are not far away.

Where to eat

Unfortunately, we found no place in Laguépie offering gluten-free options. If you have not any food intolerance, we’ve been suggested to try La terrasse, which is proposing bio and local dishes, or the Bar du Viaur (if you have a small budget), proposing some salads, homemade bread burgers and bio ice creams.
